In The Beginning…
Planet Guinea began when Henry, Karen’s Sheltie, needed two bladderstone operations and a change in diet was advised. The diet advised was a ‘grass and hay one’, which was easily achievable for much of the year, but what about those months of the year when it wasn’t?
Karen set about sourcing different seeds in order that she could grow her own supply of grass, however she soon learnt that nothing equals or comes close to mature grasses in the guinea pig diet.
In 2004 the first ever Planet Guinea Mix was put together but never made available to the guinea pig public, not only was it a highly expensive combination Karen was not convinced that it contained what was needed for the guinea pig dietry needs. The present day Planet Guinea Mix (better known as Guinea Pig Garden) contains far more grasses and less herbage than the original.
In 2006 the Planet Guinea shop was opened online and in 2008 the range expanded from seeds to Environment Enrichment, including Bags of Fun and Happy Soles bedding and our latest addition is Happy Souls Shampoo available to us exclusively, created by Gorgeous Guineas.
The rest as they say, will happen with the evolutionary process and when the time is right.
